Big data refers to the big sum of structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data collected by organizations for analysis and insight. It is a basic cornerstone for machine learning, predictive modeling, and advanced analytics applications. Being big data, characterized by the three V’s—volume, variety, and velocity—encapsulates the sheer magnitude, diverse data types, and rapid generation, collection, and processing speeds that exist today.
