Binary Defense, the trusted Managed Detection and Response (MDR) and enterprise defense provider, announced the appointment of Rafal Los as Chief Strategy Officer. In this role, Los will report directly to CEO and Founder David Kennedy and lead market-facing strategy across sales, sales engineering, customer success, marketing, channel, and technology alliances while helping expand Binary Defense’s voice across the broader cybersecurity community.

Los joins Binary Defense from ExtraHop, where he spent the past four years, most recently as Vice President of Strategic Initiatives. His career spans more than 25 years in information security, including leadership roles at Lightstream, Armor, Optiv, and HP, with a focus on building and scaling professional and managed services and leading customer-facing corporate strategy. He is also the founder and host of the Down the Security Rabbithole Podcast, one of cybersecurity’s longest-running and most widely followed shows, now in its 14th year.

“I’ve known Raf for more than 20 years, and he’s someone I’ve always wanted on this team,” said David Kennedy, CEO and Founder of Binary Defense. “He’s one of the industry’s most respected strategists, a trusted voice in cybersecurity, and he brings an incredible amount of energy everywhere he goes. As we continue to reshape how organizations approach security operations, there’s no one better to help tell that story – and challenge the status quo alongside us.”

The appointment comes as Binary Defense continues to expand its AI-driven approach to security operations. Over the past year, the company has broadened its NightBeacon platform with the introduction of NightBeacon Detect and, most recently, NightBeacon CMD, a standalone AI-driven SOC workbench developed and refined inside the company’s own 24/7 security operations center. By combining agentic AI with practitioner expertise while keeping human judgment at the center of every decision, Binary Defense is redefining what a modern SOC can do. Los will help bring that vision to customers, partners, and the broader security community as the company continues to expand its market presence.

“I’ve spent my career at the intersection of security strategy, services, and communication, and I can’t imagine a better place to put that experience to work,” said Rafal Los, Chief Strategy Officer of Binary Defense. “Dave has built a team that’s obsessed with the mission, and I’m excited to help tell that story to customers, partners, and the broader security community.”

A frequent speaker, writer, and commentator on cybersecurity strategy, Los has spent more than two decades helping organizations navigate an evolving threat landscape while contributing to many of the industry’s most important conversations about the future of cyber defense.
