Athena Security, Inc. Launches Specialized AI Agents that Leverage Edge Processing on the Apple iPad

Athena’s AI Agents enhance hospital entryway security by performing high-frequency tasks in compliance with DHS best practices.

Athena Security, Inc. announced the expansion of its patent-pending AI Agent framework across its Weapons Detection System (WDS) and Visitor Management platforms—introducing a new generation of intelligent software agents that process directly on the secure Apple iPad at the edge. This AI Agent Workforce is designed to augment officers, reduce fatigue, and allow security teams to focus on what humans do best: judgment, response, and care.

In hospitals, schools, and public venues that are facing staffing pressure, regulatory mandates, and rising threats, Athena Security’s AI Agents work alongside human officers to automate repetitive workflows, monitor compliance, and ensure screening integrity in real time.

As new regulations, such as California AB 2975 require comprehensive weapons detection coverage at hospital entrances beginning in 2027, along with other states considering similar action, security leaders are being asked to do more with a limited staff. Athena Security’s AI Agent framework is built to help administrators meet the growing requirements.

“Athena is not just a weapons-or-no-weapons system,” says Chris Ciabarra, Co-founder and CTO of Athena Security. “We’re building AI Agent architecture for the modern threat environment. Our patent-pending AI Agents automate high-frequency, repetitive tasks so officers can focus on judgment, response, and care. Others stop at detection, but that’s where we begin.”

The Athena AI Agent Workforce at Work

Athena’s AI Agents operate continuously across the screening environment to support officers. These agents are not abstract tools; each one automates a defined portion of an officer’s workflow, handling high-frequency, repetitive tasks consistently so human personnel can prioritize situational awareness and response.

The Result. On-site security teams have more time to effectively:

  • De-escalate.
  • Pay closer attention to situational awareness.
  • Focus on patient care and community safety.

The Athena Security AI Agent Framework

All AI Agents have DHS best practices built-in, ensuring screening practices are able to meet internal audit requirements.

  1. Person-of-Interest AI Agent
The Person-of-Interest AI Agent automatically scans entrants against internal “person of interest,” banned visitor, as well as external watch lists.
  2. Wand-Compliance AI Agent
The Wand-Compliance AI Agent verifies that secondary wand screening is performed correctly and consistently.
  3. Anti-Bypass AI Agent
The Anti-Bypass AI Agent detects and alerts if a visitor attempts to walk around, evade, or improperly pass through the screening system. It alerts and documents events in real-time.
  4. Operator-Performance AI Agent
The Operator-Performance AI Agent monitors that the WDS system is being operated according to established procedures—helping reduce drift, shortcuts, and fatigue-related errors.
  5. Self-Healing System AI Agent
The Self-Healing System AI Agent continuously monitors system health, alignment, and operational readiness on the Apple iPad at the edge. If an issue is detected, the AI attempts automated correction. If resolution fails, it escalates—triggering human intervention.
  6. Visitor Flow & Instruction AI Agent
The Visitor Flow & Instruction AI Agent, also known as Telepresence, ensures visitors move through the correct stations in sequence and that operators provide proper instructions. Displayed as a hologram, the Telepresence AI Agent improves throughput, reduces confusion, and enhances the overall visitor experience—especially in hospital environments where clarity and compassion matter.

The Future of Security

AI agents are quickly becoming the industry standard. Athena Security is pioneering an integrated AI Agent architecture purpose-built for on-premise weapons detection and entryway security that is fully unified across visitor management, weapons detection, and operational oversight.

In healthcare settings where downtime is not an option, and where labor actions and staffing shortages have intensified calls for safer environments, Athena Security’s AI Agents help maintain operational continuity, reduce bottlenecks at entrances, and support calmer, safer facilities for patients, staff, and visitors.
