Lenovo’s Motorola Mobility and Sharp Sign Patent Cross License Agreement

Motorola Mobility LLC (Motorola), a subsidiary of Lenovo Group, and Sharp have reached a global agreement on cross patent licenses relating to each organization’s wireless communication technologies.

Lenovo is pleased to enter into an agreement where both parties came to agree on the fair value of each other’s portfolio, with both parties demonstrating their willingness to license on a fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory (FRAND) basis.

Motorola is a leading global cell phone vendor with a long history of innovation – with iconic flagship devices such as the foldable razr, first launched in 2004  and relaunched in 2019. Lenovo continues to innovate and contribute to the development of cellular technologies across its portfolio, with over 1,900 patent families classed as essential to 3G, 4G and 5G standards licensed to multiple companies worldwide.

Commenting on the agreement with Sharp, John Mulgrew, Vice President and global head of Intellectual Property, Lenovo, commented: “Our cross-licensing agreement with Sharp is a textbook example of two companies coming together with mutual respect for each other’s investment and innovation, and who are prepared to negotiate on a FRAND basis.
