“This acquisition demonstrates how Superna is leading the way at the intersection of storage security and data protection”
“Industry analysts like Gartner – in their July 2023 Hype CycleTM for Storage and Data Protection Technologies – have defined cyberstorage as an emerging security category that’s gaining traction in the face of increasingly sophisticated cyber threats. Sitting between network infrastructure and storage systems, cyberstorage delivers a data-first approach to security for increased resiliency, and this is exactly where Superna excels,” said Alex Hesterberg, Superna CEO. He added, “Our customers are dealing with two realities: trying to monetize unstructured data across multiple platforms and protecting a growing data estate against modern cyber threats. Whether it’s mission critical file systems or the datasets feeding AI algorithms, our customers require a comprehensive, multi-platform data security solution.”
DefendX was founded in 1994 and has enabled customers to optimize their primary storage space by identifying files that are no longer relevant and securely organizing what remains. Important files – and the users who access them – are closely monitored to help ensure security and enforce compliance.
Hesterberg went on to say, “Our acquisition of DefendX allows us to extend our powerful security capabilities and help close the data security gap left by traditional data protection technologies. DefendX also has a very compelling data migration capability that will enhance our Data Orchestration portfolio, helping to ensure that our customers can get their data to the right platform or tier of storage with ease.”

For more than a decade, Superna has continually evolved its solution portfolio to help thousands of global organizations protect, manage, and secure their data more effectively, resulting in more than 5 exabytes of data secured by Superna software today.
“This acquisition demonstrates how Superna is leading the way at the intersection of storage security and data protection,” said Andrew MacKay, Superna’s Chief Technology and Strategy Officer. “We believe that joining DefendX’s innovative capabilities with Superna’s industry-leading data protection will help customers achieve a Hybrid Cloud Zero Trust Security model for their unstructured data.”
“DefendX technology has been market-tested and proven reliable. Our world is not just on-premise, hybrid and multi-cloud; when it comes to data, we are multi-platform. Delivering comprehensive cyberstorage solutions across these platforms helps ensure that our customers can spend more time leveraging their data, and less time worrying about its cybersecurity exposure,” said Hesterberg. He added, “DefendX technology will greatly enhance Superna users’ ecosystem to proactively detect, defend, and recover from unknown threats.”
