Permit.io Introduces New Pricing, Bringing Accessible Fine-Grained Authorization to Startups

Permit.io, a popular authorization-as-a-service provider, today announced a major update to its pricing model, including the launch of a new Startup tier.

“As a startup in the healthcare space, we knew from the start that we couldn’t afford to take shortcuts when it came to permission management. We made a strategic decision to adopt fine-grained authorization early on”

Designed specifically for small teams and startups, this new offering makes it possible for early-stage companies to implement Fine-Grained Authorization (FGA) from the outset of their product development process, supporting secure collaboration and data management while enabling faster time-to-market.

FGA: A Necessity for Modern Applications

SaaS users are expecting applications to give them greater agency over their data than ever before. Many consider self-service, data sharing, and collaboration features a must, and support for them is expected from day one.

This results in an ever-growing number of companies seeking out tried-and-tested providers that can help them implement these features, saving development time and, more importantly, reducing the risks associated with building in-house security solutions.

Faaez Ul Haq, founder of Hipp Health, shared his perspective:

“As a startup in the healthcare space, we knew from the start that we couldn’t afford to take shortcuts when it came to permission management. We made a strategic decision to adopt fine-grained authorization early on”.

But that’s not the only thing that changed. Software engineers used to have very limited budgets for buying tools, as the majority of software purchasing power was concentrated in DevOps and security teams. But this is no longer the case – developers are increasingly becoming decision-makers and buyers, empowering them to deliver faster, better, and more secure software.

Or Weis, CEO of Permit.io, explained:

Fine-grained authorization isn’t a problem for some executive in a large enterprise to solve. Many of our users come from smaller companies and teams. They have limited budgets, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have high security standards.

By externalizing FGA, startups can reduce development time and operational risk, focusing their resources on building innovative features instead of creating in-house security solutions.

Empowering Startups to Monetize Faster

Permit.io’s new pricing structure aims to empower startups to monetize their applications more easily. Modern SaaS companies recognize that secure collaboration features aren’t just a security layer—they’re a business enabler.

Features such as user invites and management, access requests, operation approval, and Role-Based/Attribute-Based access control are critical for applications serving B2C and B2B audiences.

As these are often offered as part of an application’s paid tier, being able to implement them easily from day one instead of spending valuable development time and resources is a game-changer in how quickly you can monetize them.

Accessible Pricing for All

The updated pricing model includes a free tier for up to 1000 monthly active users with full access to all features—no blackout limitations. Developers using Permit.io’s free tier can now leverage tools like GitOps workflows, custom policy writing, GitHub integration, Terraform, SDKs, and APIs at n******, ensuring full flexibility for managing permissions from the start.

The newly introduced Startup tier offers a scalable entry point for teams supporting up to 10,000 users for as low as $150 per month. This tier is specifically tailored to the needs of startups with limited resources but high-security standards, providing an affordable solution that scales as user bases grow.

Predictable, Transparent Costs

Permit.io also revamped its approach to pricing predictability. By combining a Monthly Active User (MAU) model with resource quotas, the company ensures that clients can accurately forecast their expenses. The updated structure balances affordability with the need to manage operational costs, allowing them to offer a rate significantly lower than any other authorization-as-a-service provider.

With these changes, Permit.io underscores its commitment to supporting companies of all sizes in securing their applications without compromise.
