LateralAccessDevice Now Available for Download with LateralFirewall and LateralDNS Technologies

IPCopper introduces LAD (LateralAccessDevice) – now with LateralFirewall and LateralDNS technologies and available to the public as a downloadable software module. LAD transforms common PC hardware into sophisticated state-of-the-art networking powerhouses, providing a suite of network management and monitoring functions from basic routing and switching to monitoring and filtering to full line-rate packet capture up to 1Gbps and more, with no need to reconfigure clients or reroute network topology.

More than a drop-in replacement for a firewall or router, with its LateralFirewall technology LAD secures networks inside and out by segregating internal devices both from the external Internet and from each other, thereby squelching the secret, surreptitious communications between devices that chip away at the integrity of network and data security. Its LateralDNS features provide domain name resolution services and customizable domain name-based firewalling for the entire network and each individual networked device.

Firewalls offer the possibility of manually configuring IP address rules, but in practice few use them, instead relying on outsourced packages of rules, which are equally available to hackers. With LAD, however, the user gets laser-sharp aim to zero in on and shut off all the adware, malware, spyware and other ware through the domain names they use. Originally conceived as a scaled-down version of IPCopper’s commercial-grade USC8032 platform, LateralAccessDevice is now provided as a downloadable software module that the user installs and runs on their own hardware. LAD automatically gathers information about the network and its activity, securely encrypting it on the user’s hard drive in three layers of multi-dimensional data, waiting for when duty calls: reports, packet headers and even full packets with payloads – fully timestamped – going back weeks, months and even years, depending on the size of the hard drive.

LAD delivers unsurpassed performance while simultaneously processing, recording, storing, examining and cataloguing each and every packet, even on low-end processors … even as the user generates reports, extracts packets and changes configurations. LAD is a particularly hand tool for network administrators and developers working from home: just enable passthrough packet capture on a pair of ports and get the exact data packets needed for debugging networks and applications, as received at the interface and fully timestamped, while still using LAD’s other ports for all its other features. In a corporate settings use the incoming packet capture mode on a port to receive and record packets exactly as sent from a switch’s mirror port to enhance network visibility, trackability and troubleshooting.
