Teledyne LeCroy Develops High-Bandwidth, High-Definition Oscilloscope to Support Next-Generation Serial Data Technologies

Higher Resolution at Higher Bandwidths New Serial Data Analysis Software Enables Capture and Analysis of Multilevel Signaling Used in PCIe and USB-C

Teledyne LeCroy, a worldwide leader in advanced oscilloscopes and a business unit of Teledyne Technologies Incorporated, announced the launch of their new WaveMaster 8000HD high-bandwidth, high-definition oscilloscope platform with models from 20 to 65 GHz of bandwidth and 12 bits of encoding for high-definition vertical resolution. The new WaveMaster 8000HD maintains its unrivaled validation and debug capabilities while adding a new SDA Expert serial data analysis software option for testing next-generation serial data technologies.

“Innovations like artificial intelligence (AI), high performance computing, and ubiquitous computing are driving the unprecedented growth of industry I/O requirements, enabled by serial data links with increased signaling speed and complexity, such as PCI Express 6.0 and USB4 Specification v2.0”

“Teledyne LeCroy has a long history of leading the market with innovations in oscilloscopes and we are excited to introduce the next iteration of our WaveMaster platform in response to the industry’s evolving needs for higher resolution at higher bandwidths,” said Kevin Prusso, General Manager for Teledyne LeCroy. “Building upon the trusted and proven capabilities of its predecessor, the WaveMaster 8000HD doubles bandwidth while also providing industry-leading high-definition resolution and acquisition memory – all critical to effectively characterize next-generation serial data technologies.”

“Innovations like artificial intelligence (AI), high performance computing, and ubiquitous computing are driving the unprecedented growth of industry I/O requirements, enabled by serial data links with increased signaling speed and complexity, such as PCI Express 6.0 and USB4 Specification v2.0,” said Jim Pappas, Director of Technology Initiatives, Intel Corporation, “making solutions like those from Teledyne LeCroy vital to the continued growth of these applications and ecosystems.”

More Bandwidth, Resolution and Acquisition Memory to Address Evolving Needs of Serial Data Technologies

Serial data technologies are increasing in speed, driving the need for higher bandwidth capability. As an example, PCI Express® 6.0 delivers 64 gigatransfers per second (GT/s) data rates (PCIe 5.0 delivered 32 GT/s), while USB4® Specification v2.0 delivers 80 gigabits per second (Gbps) transfers (USB4 V1 delivered 40Gbps). In addition, these technologies are using multi-level pulse amplitude modulation (PAM) signals, which increases the need for higher-resolution captures.

WaveMaster 8000HD more than doubles the available bandwidth and sample rate from the previous model WaveMaster. With an industry-leading 12-bit resolution, the WaveMaster 8000HD offers exceptional signal characterization of the multi-level PAM3 and PAM4 signals used in USB4 Specification v2.0 and PCIe 6.0, respectively. The industry leading 8 gigapoints (Gpts) of acquisition memory further enhances the capabilities of CrossSync PHY, the first and only available solution to link oscilloscopes to protocol analyzers, offering an integrated trigger, capture and view of physical and protocol logic layers of high-speed serial data signals.

“Teledyne LeCroy’s high-bandwidth oscilloscopes and compliance tools have been critical to our product development process for testing our next-generation serial interfaces,” said Vivek Khanzode, Vice President, Systems Engineering at Marvell Semiconductor. “The ability to link the scopes to our Teledyne LeCroy protocol analyzers is invaluable for fast root-cause analysis of interoperability problems, increasing confidence and significantly reducing our time to market.”
