Platform9 5.6 Streamlines EKS Lifecycle Management & Unlocks Kubernetes for Developers
The release adds new capabilities to control costs, enhance security, scale reliably, and improve developer productivity.

Platform9, the leader in helping enterprises with a better way to go cloud native, announced the release of Platform9 version 5.6. This latest release includes powerful new capabilities that developers and DevOps teams can use to build, manage, and scale Kubernetes clusters and cloud-native apps on any infrastructure.

Simplifying EKS lifecycle management

“With this release, we focused on significantly improving developer and DevOps teams’ productivity and ease of use when deploying and running workloads with EKS and/or native k8s clusters on AWS,” said Madhura Maskasky, Platform9’s VP of Product. “EKS imposes the burden of many operational tasks on the user, including unmanaged worker node OS updates, scaling, multicluster management, identity and access, governance, and more. With Platform9 5.6, many of these tasks are now automated and streamlined, reducing overhead for staff-constrained DevOps teams and speeding up application delivery.”

Platform9 5.6 introduces features intended to help with reducing costs, security and compliance, and agility. These new features include Node Pools to help control costs, Assume Role for enhanced security, unmanaged node OS upgrades to ensure compliance, and the most flexible upgrade experience in the industry.

Improving Developer and DevOps Productivity

With the introduction of Platform9’s Profile Engine in version 5.4, users gained the ability to customize a cluster’s RBAC configuration, take a snapshot of it, and then save the modified objects as profiles that could be used to manage a fleet of clusters.

The 5.6 release takes Profile Engine to the next level by providing templates for ‘Complete Clusters’ that include both cluster and workload configurations and automation to deploy everything in a single step.

Additionally, the release features a brand-new UI that provides a clean separation between cluster and application operations. These changes simplify infrastructure management, enable greater focus on development tasks, and create a cleaner separation of duties for compliance and security.

The new dedicated infrastructure space in the UI helps DevOps admins create and manage different types of clusters and associated resources such as Cloud Providers, Nodes, RBAC Profiles, etc. Developers have their own area where they can work unrestrictedly while utilizing their own customized, controlled templates for application deployments.

Summary of new capabilities

With the release of Platform9 5.6, DevOps teams can enable automated deployment of apps and clusters with ease, boost cost efficiency, and improve security. Instead of battling with complicated infrastructure management, developers can continue to concentrate on delivering applications faster.

  • EKS cluster lifecycle management using the full, original version of Cluster API making it fully transparent and available to users.
  • Single view and administrative entry point for managing EKS clusters across regions, including the workloads.
  • Secure and limit access to AWS with enterprise SSO that removes the requirement for AWS credentials and simplifies governance for both cluster and workload access.
  • ArgoCD-as-a-Service for fully managed continuous application delivery, connecting seamlessly with your clusters and requiring no setup.
  • Declarative configuration of both your apps and infrastructure with our Profile Engine add-on, built on Platform9’s open-source project, Arlon, that allows you to build complete clusters; infrastructure plus workload manifests from a single profile stored in Git.
  • Support for Kubernetes 1.22 and 1.23 versions.
  • Support for RHEL 8.5 and 8.6 versions.

These features are available today. Interested users can speak to our experts to get a free assessment of their cloud-native readiness on EKS and how they can leverage the platform to reduce costs and improve productivity.
