Kion Gains Further Market Momentum Through Product and Company Expansion

Company enters 2023 with significant customer satisfaction milestones and key additions to the product and engineering teams

Kion, the leading cloud enablement solution provider, achieved monumental growth in 2022, positioning the company for accelerated innovation and expansion in 2023. Throughout 2022, Kion introduced new features within its cloud enablement software, appointed new leadership, and received notable industry recognitions. As a result, the company is positioned to continue a strong growth trajectory in 2023.

“Kion goes beyond just reporting on what needs to be done to actually enabling teams to govern and secure their cloud environments from the start. I needed this tool in past environments and I’m looking forward to building more ways to enable our customers in their cloud journeys.”

2021 brought forth accelerated migration to the cloud, and in 2022 organizations were looking to better navigate it. As the demand for cloud management and governance capabilities grew, Kion’s revolutionary cloud enablement approach made them uniquely positioned to address this market need. This was demonstrated by 200% growth, significant customer retention and satisfaction numbers all while maintaining a capital-efficient growth model. In 2022, Kion achieved over 120% net dollar retention from their customer base. And, 88% of respondents in Kion’s Net Promoter Score survey rated the product at a nine or above out of 10.

“Last year, we saw significant demand for organizations looking to move beyond the traditional, multiple tool, siloed approach of managing the cloud. They sought our cloud enablement solution to give better context for making decisions and automating key financial and security actions in the cloud. Context and automation are key elements of Kion’s unique approach to redefining the cloud experience for organizations and empowering their people to accelerate adoption,” said Brian Price, CEO at Kion. “With a tightening economy, every organization is looking for ways to optimize cloud spending, not just in their monthly bills from AWS, Azure and Google Cloud, but in the people and processes required to effectively manage everything. I’m proud of the accomplishments we achieved in 2022, and even more excited about what our new leaders in product and engineering will offer our customers in 2023 and beyond to accelerate advancements in our platform.”

In 2022, Kion appointed Brandon Turner as Vice President of Engineering and Shane Quinlan as Vice President of Product. Turner joins Kion from Rapid7 where he spent over 10 years leading engineering for its Platform practice, as well as Cloud Operations, Development and IT Operations (DevOps) and Product Analytics. At Kion, Turner will be responsible for leading product engineering, DevOps, and quality assurance. Quinlan joins Kion from Rise8 where he helped build cloud-native command and control (C2) technologies as part of the Air Force’s Advanced Battle Management System (ABMS) program. At Kion, Quinlan will refine product strategy, lead product design, and manage Kion’s product roadmap.

“I’ve spent several years building SaaS products and have witnessed first-hand how complex it can be to manage the cloud without the right tools to help,” said Turner. “Kion goes beyond just reporting on what needs to be done to actually enabling teams to govern and secure their cloud environments from the start. I needed this tool in past environments and I’m looking forward to building more ways to enable our customers in their cloud journeys.”

“Coming from years of healthcare and defense work, governance and cost management have been central to the way I’ve built products, but always challenging to manage effectively,” said Quinlan. “I know it should be easy to let development teams work with and take advantage of cloud technologies and Kion makes that possible. Beyond the mission, I’m excited to be part of a team that enjoys partnering with our customers to uncover new opportunities – from delivery and support to design and engineering.”

In terms of product focus in 2023, the goal is to radically transform and expand the current Kion platform capabilities to boost scalability, help customers find value faster, and further optimize their cloud environments. Kion is planning enhancements to the way it handles financials, reporting, compliance, deployment methods, and more. “Kion will become one of the tools development and infrastructure teams can’t live without, whether they’re working in one public cloud or all of them,” added Quinlan.

This past year, Kion’s efforts in cloud enablement have received accolades from respected industry programs. Kion was named a 2022 SIIA CODiE Award winner in the Identity and Access Management category for their ability to manage users’ access across cloud providers. Additionally, Kion ranked as a high performer and easiest to do business with in Fall and Winter reports from G2, a trusted peer-to-peer review and technology marketplace. Kion also accelerated its presence in higher education and was recognized by research and education institutions by joining the Internet2 community after successfully completing the NET+ program service evaluation and being vetted by ten higher education institutions, many of whom became customers.
