Kion Empowers Federal Organizations Using AWS to Meet Compliance Requirements
Company recognized as ATO on AWS Partner; Cloud enablement platform delivers additional visibility and control across AWS accounts

Kion, a leading cloud enablement solution provider, announced that the company has been recognized as an Authority to Operate (ATO) on AWS Partner, an Amazon Web Services (AWS) program that helps AWS partners meet their customers’ authorization needs, whether it be architecting, configuring, deploying, or integrating tools and controls. Kion is collaborating with Communications Training Analysis Corporation (CTAC) to advance a US government agency’s ATO on AWS project. Kion’s cloud enablement solution simplifies cloud management and governance activities, empowering organizations to confidently provision accounts, maintain financial control, and ensure compliance.

The ATO on AWS Partner program helps federal organizations that need assistance with navigating, automating, and accelerating the development of compliant workloads on AWS. In support of this initiative, Kion is working with their partner, CTAC, a systems integrator that assists government agencies in the investigation, analysis, and execution of innovative web and information technologies to recognize efficiencies in their mission. Kion is helping CTAC to simplify the process for provisioning and deprovisioning AWS accounts, as well as maintain compliance with the necessary security and privacy requirements for the government client.

“Cloud management, including budget enforcement, is top of mind for organizations looking to ensure control and accelerate cloud migrations. Coupled with the numerous security and compliance requirements, organizations can experience significant roadblocks that slow down or even halt these efforts,” said Brian Price, President and CEO of Kion. “This is why we built Kion, to serve as an all-in-one solution to support organizations’ cloud modernization efforts and deliver greater visibility, control, and confidence. We’re thrilled to be able to work with CTAC to help our joint client achieve an ATO on AWS and have already made significant progress in remediating compliance findings. We’re eager to continue implementing other platform features to accelerate the project and simplify their processes.”

Using Kion’s platform, CTAC has been able to identify numerous compliance findings in the client’s cloud environment, successfully remediating over 77% of these in under a month. CTAC’s next objective will be to implement Kion’s Cloud Rules to automatically enforce policies, add preventative controls to ensure compliance is maintained, and remediate remaining findings within the client’s ecosystem. The Cloud Rules include continuous compliance checks that can be triggered on a regular schedule or on-demand to assess real-time compliance posture and auto-remediate misconfigurations like public resources, misconfigured security groups, or abandoned access keys. As a result, the client will have a 360-degree view of compliance to both regulatory and internal standards as outlined in NIST 800-53 rev 4.

“Kion’s platform has been immensely helpful in our client’s journey towards achieving an ATO on AWS,” said Doug McIvor, Program Manager at CTAC. “The platform has helped us quickly identify opportunities to improve security and compliance with our client’s existing accounts and provision new accounts in adherence to regulatory frameworks and guidelines. Kion immediately reduced the time and energy spent and significantly enhanced our client’s security posture. We’re looking forward to the next phase of this project and are fortunate to have Kion as a trusted partner.”

Kion helps leading government agencies, universities, and cloud-first commercial enterprises align cloud resources with budgets, security, and compliance policies. The Kion platform goes beyond just alerting to automatically enforcing all policies, giving organizations peace of mind and control. In addition to being an ATO on AWS Partner, Kion is an AWS Software Path Partner and a part of the AWS Public Sector Partner Program. Kion has also received both the Government Independent Software Vendor (ISV) Competency and the Cloud Management Tools ISV Competency. The Kion platform supports multiple AWS Regions, including AWS GovCloud (US), AWS Secret Region, and AWS Top Secret Region.

Kion and CTAC will be at the AWS Public Sector Summit in Washington, D.C. from May 23 – 25, 2022, showcasing innovative cloud enablement and technology services to support agency missions. To keep up to date on Kion’s latest announcements
