Hayden AI Granted Patent for its Behind-the-Windshield AI Camera System

Hayden AI, a global leader in artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies, has been awarded a patent for its camera-based perception system that detects objects from behind vehicle windshields.

Most mobile camera systems for roadway object detection must be mounted outside of vehicles – on the vehicle’s roof or off its side – and cannot see through windshields or work in low light conditions. Hayden AI’s mobile perception system is designed to be mounted inside the vehicle – behind windshields – while maintaining highly-accurate object detection. This makes the Hayden AI camera system operational in all weather and light conditions.

“Our cameras’ ability to function at night is a major advancement in the field of mobile cameras,” said Bo Shen, co-founder and Chief Science Officer at Hayden AI. “By designing a skirt around both our automated license plate recognition camera (ALPR) and our AI-powered context camera, our interior-mounted camera system can accurately detect objects without windshield glare from the interior ambient light in the bus. This significantly improves the usefulness of our system for automated bus lane and bus stop enforcement.”

Hayden AI is the US market leader in mobile automated bus lane enforcement and bus stop enforcement, with over 650 camera systems installed on transit buses across the country. Detecting objects in low light and all weather conditions ensures that all parking violations impacting reliable service and safety for transit riders are processed, helping transit agencies keep bus lanes and bus stops clear. Additionally, mounting the camera system behind the bus windshield protects the equipment from the elements, increasing its lifespan and reducing maintenance costs.
