Atos Enables Secure Voting at Panam Sports’ General Assembly With New App Based on Blockchain

Atos is proud to support through the Atos’ voting platform, “Atos Vote”, the Pan American Sports Organization (Panam Sports), leader of sport and the Olympic Movement in the Americas. “Atos Vote” uses Blockchain technology in order to provide optimum voting security in digital meetings.

The secure and intuitive voting platform was used to successfully manage the online voting process for the Panam Sports General Assembly, which was held virtually on 15-16 December, uniting the 41 National Olympic Committees of the Americas. This is the first reunion of the Committees in history to be held online in order to ensure the safety of the hundreds of delegates throughout the continent who attended.

“Atos Vote” was made available via an online portal and smartphone application to enable the 41 National Olympic Committees’ members, spread across a range of geographies and timezones, to vote in the elections for the Panam Sports President and the new Members of the Executive Committee, as well as important decisions on proposed amendment to the constitution.

Ivar Sisniega, Panam Sports Secretary General, said: “In these uncertain times, we are thrilled to be able to keep counting on Atos, our Information Technology Partner since the Pan American Games of Winnipeg 1999. Thanks to Atos’ expertise, this is the first time that we have successfully used an online voting platform across such a wide range of countries and for such an important event.”

Patrick Adiba, Head of Major Events at Atos added: “As the leader in digital security and a longstanding Worldwide IT Partner of the Olympic & Paralympic Games, we are pleased to bring cutting-edge technology to Panam Sports by building on our ability to orchestrate expert teams and leverage blockchain technology to forge new and fully secured digital paths in current Covid-19 times”

The app is secured by design (SBD) and brings a new level of security in online voting with 3 key elements: Authenticity (using double factor authentication and biometrics of the user), Authorization (of the user through blockchain wallet) and Cryptography (content can only be decrypted through a private key stored in the phone). It offers a seamless and smooth user experience, and the flexibility for users to cast votes from any device, including iOS and Android smartphones and tablets, and from wherever they are located. In addition to core functionalities of registering, voting and reviewing votes, users can take advantage of the enhanced automations which enable proxy voting or ‘bulk’ voting.

In 2018, Atos was named Global Exclusive IT Partner of Panam Sports. Since then, Atos has provided and will continue to provide tailor-made solutions and innovations for future editions of the Pan American Games, including the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games.
