Salomon Selects HPE Greenlake to Drive Business Agility and Increase Data Center Sustainability
HPE GreenLake transforms Salomon’s IT environment to enable more scalable service delivery while reducing carbon footprint with less equipment

Hewlett Packard Enterprise announced that Salomon, a leading outdoor sports equipment manufacturer, has selected HPE GreenLake edge to cloud platform to provide a next-generation, on-premises cloud environment to increase IT resource deployment agility, reduce environmental footprint and accelerate software development for new applications and services. Salomon will use HPE Synergy, HPE’s highly secure, software-defined composable infrastructure and HPE Nimble Storage, an intelligent, self-managing storage solution, in an as-a-service model, to provide an easy-to-manage platform that responds to growing business demands and allows better cost management.

Part of the Amer Sports family, Salomon brings engineers, designers, and athletes together to create innovative outdoor equipment. Due to greater fluctuations in business demands that resulted from the impact of COVID-19, Salomon needed to scale up and down its technology environment to provide more resiliency, business flexibility, agility and cost efficiency.

Salomon turned to HPE and HPE’s partner, Cheops Technology to design and implement a modernized technology platform that would enable it to accelerate application development, drive operational efficiency, streamline capacity planning and scale readily to support business growth. HPE and Cheops Technology worked together to design a software-defined platform delivered as-a-service through HPE GreenLake that met Salomon’s increased demands for flexibility, resiliency and cost efficiency with pay-per-use billing. HPE GreenLake also provided Salomon with an agile platform for its developer community to use, in order to accelerate new software development in a DevOps mode.

HPE GreenLake also enabled Salomon to reduce the environmental impact of IT and will help the company meet its ambitious sustainability goal to achieve a 30% reduction of carbon emissions by 2025. More specifically, HPE GreenLake helped Salomon increase capacity utilization and reduce the resources required for power and cooling, while also ensuring additional capacity is still available to support increased business demand. HPE GreenLake also offered a disaster recovery solution to ensure resilience and business continuity in a more efficient and timely way.

“With HPE, we found a reliable partner that offers us all the elements we need to manage our capacity now, but also into the future – delivering scalability, cost efficiency, improved performance, and ease of management through a uniquely built as-a-service solution,”
said Eric Gauffre, IT Infrastructure and Services Director, Amer Sports Corporation. “We believe innovative technologies have a critical role to play to reduce companies carbon footprint. Better capacity planning helps us achieve greater long-term growth and allow us to adapt our business to the ever-changing environment. The new infrastructure allows us to transform our IT operations with a high-performing, sustainable technology environment that will bring even greater value to our customers through a more secured service level.”

Furthermore, HPE Pointnext Technology Services and Cheops Technology worked together to design and implement the HPE GreenLake as-a-service solution based on HPE Nimble Storage and HPE Synergy which supports all of Salomon’s virtualized workloads, including Oracle database workloads, and will also support the future adoption of containerized applications. This environment is automated and orchestrated by HPE OneView, with the ability to scale up and down the compute and storage resources separately, and as-needed to respond to the different peaks and demands for IT capacity. The operations and management are handled by HPE InfoSight, which is offered on HPE Nimble Storage to deliver cloud-based AI-driven operations to monitor, predict and prevent infrastructure problems before they occur.

“We are delighted to help Salomon respond to the changing business demands brought upon by the COVID-19 pandemic, through modernizing and streamlining its IT infrastructure and providing a more flexible environment for its developers,” said Nicholas Bohy, General Manager, HPE Pointnext Technology Services. “Our HPE GreenLake solution delivers increased scalability and financial flexibility together with a more sustainable, environmentally-friendly, long-term solution.”

HPE long-time Platinum partner, Cheops Technology, brought its knowledge and experience to enable a seamless installation of the composable infrastructure and continues to work closely with Salomon and HPE.

“With the HPE Greenlake offer, Cheops Technology wanted Salomon to benefit from a new way of consuming IT in pay-per-use terms for on rremise infrastructures. This desire is fully in line with the cloud strategy proposed by Cheops Technology.” added Claude FOURNIER, Regional Director of Cheops Technology
