Dell Identifies Business Prospects in India's Tech Certifications

Dell Inc. executives highlighted the emergence of new technology certifications and standards in India, among other countries in the Asia-Pacific region, as a significant factor opening up new business opportunities for the company. The adoption of zero-trust cybersecurity, practical implementations of generative AI, the rise of multi-cloud edge platforms, and the development of quantum computing combined with generative AI were identified as key trends shaping global enterprise technology adoption.

PREDICTIONS SERIES 2024 - CIO Influence

Dell expressed excitement about the opportunities presented by the development of certifications and cyber standards in countries like India, Vietnam, Australia, New Zealand, and Malaysia. The company aims to leverage its technology to support customers in complying with these emerging standards and regulations. In India, evolving technology certifications include cybersecurity laws, social media intermediary guidelines, and the Digital Personal Data Privacy Act, among others.

The implementation of these standards is expected to lead to increased enterprise technology use cases, with firms seeking compliance support from technology service providers like Dell. Additionally, the executives noted that generative AI use cases would extend beyond business applications, encompassing the broader spectrum of AI.

According to Kevin Roose, a journalist for The New York Times, the biggest technology story of 2023 was the rise of the metaverse. The metaverse is a virtual shared space, often created by the convergence of physical and virtual reality, where users can interact with a computer-generated environment and other users in real-time. This concept gained significant attention and investment from major tech companies throughout 2023.

The metaverse has been a long-standing concept in science fiction and tech discussions, but in 2023, it became a focal point for companies like Meta (formerly Facebook), Google, Microsoft, and others. Meta, in particular, announced a significant rebranding and shift in focus towards building the metaverse, investing heavily in virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies.

The metaverse gained traction as a gaming or entertainment platform and as a potential future of the internet, where people could work, socialize, and create in a shared digital space. Companies and investors saw the metaverse as a major business opportunity, leading to the acquisition of virtual real estate, the development of virtual goods and services, and the creation of immersive experiences.

In addition to the metaverse, other notable technology trends in 2023 included advancements in artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and edge computing. These technologies continued to evolve and shape various industries, from healthcare to finance, with a focus on improving efficiency, performance, and capabilities.

It’s important to note that the perspective on the most significant technology story can vary depending on individual opinions and the specific industry or technology niche being considered.

During its September quarter earnings call, the largest of the five, TCS, indicated substantial progress with over 250 pilot partnerships and more than 100,000 employees trained in new generative AI skills. Infosys also hinted at a surge in generative AI use cases.

Despite these advancements, industry analysts caution that while pilot partnerships are on the rise, both service providers and tech clients are still exploring practical business applications. Consequently, despite the growing number of pilots, generative AI might not significantly boost revenue growth in what has been a relatively sluggish financial year for the IT services sector.

Roese’s forecast, however, anticipates the increasing maturity of generative AI in the upcoming year—an evolution that technology service providers worldwide are hopeful will materialize.
