Taking Computer Vision in Healthcare to the Next Level with Dynamsoft Vision Framework

Introducing an aggregated SDK of image capturing, content understanding, result parsing, and interactive workflow to streamline complex processes.

Dynamsoft released Dynamsoft Barcode Reader SDK C++ Edition v10.0.0. The updated SDK has been refactored into a brand-new experience for Dynamsoft’s computer vision SDK product line, which is designed to adapt to a variety of different image-processing scenarios to derive and extract useful information from images. Dynamsoft Vision framework allows developers to easily apply computer vision algorithms to perform various tasks on input images and videos and extract useful information for further processing. The Vision framework includes the following image-processing products:

  • Dynamsoft Barcode Reader (DBR) – Robust high-speed 1D & 2D barcode scanner.
  • Dynamsoft Label Recognizer (DLR) – Localize and extract key data from specified regions using OCR.
  • Dynamsoft Document Normalizer (DDN) – Detect quadrilaterals and normalize documents.
  • Dynamsoft Code Parser (DCP) – Parses driver’s license/identification data string into human-readable information.
  • Dynamsoft Camera Enhancer (DCE) – High-level camera APIs to enhance the camera frame acquisition process.

This update consolidates all of Dynamsoft’s image processing capabilities into a single framework and represents a significant step forward for Dynamsoft and its customers. The revamped Vision framework now features an orchestrator module that acts as a central hub, managing the flow of data between various SDKs and ensuring seamless integration. The orchestrator is designed to standardize input and output data interfaces while coordinating processes of different SDKs.

How does it revolutionize the most common workflow process in healthcare: new patient intake? Typically, a patient would be asked to provide a valid identity document and fill out a patient intake application form at reception. Healthcare staff needs to enter the form into the database, verify the ID, register the new patient, and save all relevant information at the correct locations. With the new Vision framework, all the employee needs to do is snap a picture of the form and the ID of the patient. Let’s see what goes on behind the scenes.

When the picture was snapped by the clinic’s receptionist, DCE auto-focuses and auto-zooms to take a high-quality image.

Then DDN comes in to detect the document’s border and automatically crops the image to save a nice and clean document. If necessary, it could also perform other editing functions such as perspective correction, color correction, etc.

Next, DBR reads the barcode to determine the form type, repository location, and other information to ensure proper patient registration and document management.

DLR is used to read the MRZ code on the patient’s passport or other IDs which is used to verify the patient’s identity or retrieve any information from the database. Now a patient record has been instantaneously created and fully registered with ID verified and the intake form saved in just a quick snap thanks to Dynamsoft’s aggregated SDKs.

The highly customizable aggregation could also be tweaked to cater to and streamline many processes in government, airline, retail, and other industries.

While the SDKs can still function independently, the real advantage comes from using multiple SDKs in tandem.

  • Built with scalability at the forefront of the architectural design using pluggable components. As organizations grow and business needs shift, future expansion is as easy as plug-and-play.
  • Fast, efficient, parallel processing as all Dynamsoft SDKs work seamlessly with each other.
  • Flexible with intermediate results sharing, which allows you to use your algorithm for binarization or share any of the intermediate results produced by the framework with other parts of your application.

Getting started with development can be done easily. Developers can download the SDKs from the Dynamsoft website, including a trial version. A 30-day trial license comes with the installer and the developer is ready to customize the application to their specific workflow requirement with the help of our developer’s guide, API references, and 22/5 technical support team.
