Red Hat Updates Certification Exam Retake Policy to Broaden the Red Hat Certified Community

Certification candidates can now retake individual and preliminary Red Hat certification exams at no additional cost, providing more opportunities for aspiring IT professionals to become certified

Red Hat, Inc., the world’s leading provider of open source solutions, announced an updated Red Hat Training and Certification exam retake policy that offers candidates an opportunity to retake individual and preliminary exams at no additional cost, helping organizations fill skill gaps from Red Hat’s growing community of qualified certified professionals. New certification candidates or those who have purchased individual or preliminary exams and have not taken them yet are eligible for a retake of the exam at no additional cost if they are unsuccessful in their first attempt. Red Hat Learning Subscription (RHLS) standard, premium and developer subscribers will now receive conditional retakes for each of the exams provided by their respective subscriptions.

Red Hat’s 2023 Global Tech Outlook report cites talent and skill gaps as the most common digital transformation challenge, pointing to IT leaders’ concern that progress on important technology initiatives might stall without the proper skill sets and talent. Providing certification candidates with the opportunity to retake exams enables more people to become Red Hat certified professionals while maintaining the high standards Red Hat sets for achieving certification.

Red Hat certifications span the entire Red Hat open hybrid cloud portfolio, equipping certified professionals with skills ranging from enterprise architecture certifications, core Linux system administration, automation, containers and cloud skills, to developer knowledge of specialized frameworks. Certification exams include comprehensive hands-on exams lasting three to four hours. Candidates must perform real-world tasks in a timed, monitored setting using one or more Red Hat technologies to show they possess the skills and knowledge needed to innovate with Red Hat products.

Certification candidates who purchase individual or preliminary exams after February 6, 2023, or purchased before February 6, 2023, and have not taken the purchased exam yet are eligible to retake the exam. The certification exam retake policy will only apply to individuals taking exams at testing centers and remote exams. Individuals taking classroom exams, whether open enrollment or onsite, are not entitled to free retakes under this global program. Additionally, Red Hat Learning Subscription subscribers will now receive additional exam benefits with the following subscriptions:

  • RHLS – Standard and Premium subscribers are now provided with five first attempts for five different exams and the opportunity to retake all five
  • RHLS – Developer subscribers are now provided with three first attempts for three different exams and the opportunity to retake all three

Certifying with Red Hat can help individuals, teams, and organizations validate the knowledge needed to stay ahead of the technology curve. Learn more about the value of Red Hat Certifications and find certifications that are specific to your skills path and interests.
