Most Enterprises are Using Three or More Clouds According to Strata Identity Survey
Nearly Two-Thirds of Respondents Say They are Struggling to Manage Identity Silos due to Multi-Clouds and are Concerned About Visibility Gaps

Strata Identity, the distributed multi-cloud identity orchestration company, announced the findings of its State of Multi-Cloud Identity Report 2021. The study found that 66% of organizations with $1B or more in revenue use three or more on-premises or public clouds, and one-third use five or more clouds. Due to incompatible identity silos created by these multi-cloud environments, more than 60% of respondents said they lack visibility into policies, apps, and users. Meanwhile, half (51%) are still using manual efforts to manage them.

The survey asked 200 IAM leaders from across North America to share their challenges and priorities for identity management in 2021. Respondents included C-level technology executives responsible for identity and access management (IAM), software engineering, cloud architecture, DevOps, cybersecurity, and IT compliance and governance. All worked for organizations with annual revenue of at least $1 Billion (USD).

“Most on-premises identity systems are nearing end-of-life (EOL) and will no longer be supported in 2022, so organizations need to migrate their apps to the cloud urgently. This explains why 70% of respondents said they have an active cloud migration project planned this year,” said Eric Olden, CEO of Strata. “However, on-premises apps must first be rewritten to work with cloud identity systems, which can take years and cost tens or hundreds of millions of dollars depending on the number of apps. That’s why we built the Maverics Platform — to bridge legacy and cloud identity systems and allow for a gradual and orderly migration.”
