Onica by Rackspace Technology Announces Deployment Partnership with AWS Emissions Monitoring and Surveillance

Onica by Rackspace Technology, a company specializing in Amazon Web Services (AWS) Business Group at Rackspace Technology a leading provider of end-to-end multicloud technology solutions, announced its deployment collaboration with AWS on Emissions Monitoring and Surveillance (EMS). EMS is a new solution that enables plant engineers, operations managers and environmental teams to take direct emission measurements (initially methane) so that they can act quickly (maintenance, operation, planning) to reduce the carbon intensity per unit volume (kg CO2e / bbl), Reduce plant failures and security incidents, preserve product volume, and mitigate environmental impact by detecting and repairing leaks.

How EMS works:

  1. Enables new direct observations as needed (including a selection of pre-integrated third-party options for satellites, aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles, stationary permanent surveillance systems and sensors for the Internet of Things)
  2. Combines these and existing sensors as well as monitoring and data acquisition systems in order to obtain a continuous, comprehensive overview of the emissions situation
  3. Integrates this emissions data with various industrial data sources within a plant or company by bringing together localized operational data, technical plant data and business information systems in a single repository so that customers can optimize production and operating time as well as emissions

By pooling this data, customers can analyze it more quickly and feed it into the applications and workflows where the data is needed most. This enables the repairs and tweaks needed to meet the methane emission reduction goals and overall carbon intensity reduction.

“We are proud to partner with AWS to help energy companies lower carbon intensity per unit volume, reduce equipment downtime and security incidents, preserve product volume, and reduce the impact on the environment by detecting and repairing leaks,” said Mike Melanson, Vice President responsible for Strategic Alliance Partnerships at Rackspace Technology. “A solution that addresses climate change is particularly contemporary and compelling and expands our capabilities and expertise in this area.”

The EMS solution automates the integration of third-party methane emissions data sources (and operational data) into the tools and workflows where they are needed most, providing geographic views of emissions, alerts and advanced analytics. These capabilities enable the repairs and tweaks needed to meet methane emission reduction goals and overall emissions intensity.

EMS provides engineers with emissions data so they can fix leaks faster and optimize operations to minimize unnecessary emissions. There is a continuous supply of emissions data, with several sources being consolidated and supplemented with operational data from the plants in order to break through the data silos that are currently hindering emissions analysis. In addition, the provision of new sensor inputs, analysis tools and workflow integrations is significantly accelerated by the scalable technical and commercial framework, which means that many new components can be commissioned within a few days.

As an official deployment partner, Onica by Rackspace Technology can help customers to assess their readiness for the implementation of the EMS solution, to plan the implementation and to implement it.
