Databricks’ goal is to democratize data and AI access for all organizations. To achieve this mission, Databricks developed the unified, open, and scalable Databricks Lakehouse Platform, trusted by over 10,000 organizations worldwide. This platform offers unrivaled price/performance, unified governance, security, and AI capabilities.

However, the true value of such platforms lies in the quality of the data they hold. Organizations face significant challenges when moving data from diverse source databases and applications to realize the full potential of the lakehouse. This process requires:

  • In-depth knowledge of various source systems
  • Encompassing unique SQL dialects
  • Ingestion techniques
  • Binary log protocols
  • Security intricacies

These hurdles result in operational inefficiencies, leading to delayed data value extraction and increased total cost of ownership (TCO).

The inclusion of Arcion’s expertise marks a significant addition to Databricks. Founded by CTO Rajkumar Sen and led by CEO Gary Hagmueller, Arcion has established itself as an industry leader in log-based CDC solutions. The combined experience of the Arcion team, totaling over 140 years in data replication, will undoubtedly accelerate Databricks’ customers’ journey to the Lakehouse. Databricks welcomes Raj, Gary, and the complete Arcion team as valued assets to the company’s mission and vision.

In addition, this acquisition of Arcion by Databricks is a transformative step that will enable seamless and cost-effective real-time and on-demand data ingestion from multiple enterprise data sources. Arcion’s Change Data Capture (CDC) pipeline architecture, characterized by its no-code, zero-maintenance design, offers native connectors to over 20 enterprise database systems (like Oracle, SQL Server, Teradata, Snowflake) and SaaS applications (like, Salesforce, SAP, Workday). These connectors automatically handle schema conversion and adapt to the specific nuances of each source system, minimizing operational complexities. Arcion introduces features such as built-in autoscaling, high availability, and live monitoring, reducing DevOps overhead.

Databricks is committed to ensuring that customers can harness the full potential of their data assets. The integration of Databricks and Arcion’s data replication capabilities marks a significant step towards realizing this goal. By accelerating the promise of the Databricks Lakehouse Platform, this collaboration empowers customers across diverse industries to unlock decades of valuable data. With the ability to rapidly make this data available, organizations can leverage it for both traditional analytics and cutting-edge generative AI applications.
