Consumers See Digital Companies as Big Risks to their Privacy

Cybersecurity awareness is an important aspect of running a Cloud business today. American consumers who use Cloud-based products to accomplish different types of tasks face a grave risk to their online privacy in 2023. A majority of consumers do not trust organizations lacking basic infrastructure to protect personal information. Going by the sheer volume of malware and phishing attacks reported on the US soil, Americans are still concerned their privacy is exposed to threat agents who can easily infiltrate the current safety nets. These threat agents identify the gaps in the digital infrastructure of the companies that collect and store consumer data. Clearly, organizations are failing to keep up with managing security.

Cyber Rights Organization

According to Pew Research Center, 79% of Americans are concerned how companies are exposing them to cyber threats by invading their privacy. The Cyber Rights Organization (CRO) has highlighted the immediate need to empower individuals and security teams with sophisticated tools and knowledge resources to safeguard consumer privacy. The CRO is a leading advocate for cyber rights and digital privacy in Europe. With adequate guidance and IT assistance, modern organizations can arm themselves with technologies that can thwart potential threats targeting online consumers.
In an ever-evolving cyber threat intelligence landscape, consumers (mostly unaware about how their personal information is collected, stored, and used) are at the receiving end of the risks. With little or no online data protection framework available to them for tracking the use of their personal information, it is mostly left to the organizations to inform them about any kind of data leak or cyber security event. There are so many different types of cyber threats looming in the world — it’s nearly impossible to have a real-time tracking of when and how attackers would target the consumers and organizations.
The problem with cybersecurity awareness is diverse. Most consumers lack access to content that would train them on how to protect their privacy, without losing quality of service from their vendors. To become successful with cybersecurity awareness initiatives, organizations must spend time and effort in creating a privacy-driven culture across different digital touchpoints.
Annachiara Sarto, Director and Co-founder of Cyber Rights Organization says, “Creating an effective cybersecurity culture in the workplace is crucial. Recognizing that businesses and persons are prime targets for cyberattacks, the article outlines strategies to foster a security-conscious mindset among employees and citizens and develop robust policies and procedures to safeguard sensitive data.”
