Workspot Chosen by Global Finishing Solutions to Enable Remote Work for CAD Users
Workspot’s Cloud Workstations Deliver Improved Productivity and Collaboration for Manufacturing Firm

Workspot, the Desktop Cloud company, announced that Global Finishing Solutions (GFS), a manufacturer of high-quality paint booths and finishing environments, successfully deployed Workspot cloud workstations to enable remote work among its CAD users. The company was then able to smoothly transition to remote work last year and is now able to offer hybrid and flexible work options.

Global Finishing employs engineers, designers and manufacturing employees to create and build its products. Employees use data-heavy programs including Inventor, AutoCAD Electrical and AutoCAD Vault. The company’s IT department has always supported remote work, mostly through VPN, but this was not an effective option for its CAD users due to latency issues.

GFS engineers approached their manager to ask for a solution that would enable them to work from anywhere.ย Scott Funk, IT manager for GFS, was dissatisfied with previous cloud desktop options and then heard about Workspot through partners at Microsoft. GFS started with a simple proof of concept for Workspot with five machines and immediately heard from the team that it was working well.

The company had run its Workspot environment for about two weeks when the pandemic’s stay-at-home order came downย and, within two days, deployed additional desktops.ย Employees are even able to securely access their virtual desktops with their own devices โ€” including Macs. Since they now have such a reliable and successful remote model, GFS is exploring long-term remote and hybrid work options. This also opens the door for expanding the talent pool, since most employees no longer must live close to a main office.

Scott Funk, IT manager,ย Global Finishingย Solutions, said:ย “Workspot’s cloud workstations ensured a successful transition to large-scale remote work last year. Now that we’ve seen how well it works, we can offer more flexible work arrangements for employees. Our ultimate goal is to tap into a workforce that we haven’t been able to before.”

Amitabh Sinha, CEO, Workspot, said:ย “Companies like Global Finishing Solutions that rely on data-intensive applications generally find legacy VDI solutions to be unfit. They aren’t cloud-native, so they can’t offer the low latency and high-performance customers need. Workspot was built for the cloud, so our solutions are able to deliver the right compute capabilities for each user, on any device, anywhere they want to work.”
