Ericsson’s dual-mode 5G Core solution, on top of Ericsson Cloud Infrastructure, combined with its radio access network (RAN) deployment on 3.5 GHz covering the main cities will allow Movistar to create a unique offering and experience for Consumer and Enterprise. Additionally, these solutions will introduce the most advanced functionalities of 5G standalone technology such as ultra-low latency, high throughput, and massive number of connections.

The introduction of 5G standalone within 5G+ commercial launch, marks a new milestone in Telefónica and Ericsson long term collaboration that will unlock the full potential of 5G for Movistar customers, enabling consumers to enjoy unique mobile experiences and industries/enterprises to capture unprecedent opportunities leveraging the advanced capabilities of 5G standalone technology.

It will also enable super-fast response times and faster access to higher data rates, that are needed, for example to take cloud gaming and immersive media experiences to the next level.

In addition to this, standalone technology will also support enhanced capabilities in Telefónica’s 5G commercial network, such as network slicing, enabling higher flexibility as different parts of the network can be allocated for different specific use cases. This will enable new business models across all verticals, creating greater monetization opportunities for Telefónica’s business.
